Bekunis Instant is a vegetable stimulant laxative. It is a plant-based medicine for short-term treatment, occasional constipation.
You should consult your doctor if it gets worse or if it does not improve after 4 days.
1. What is Bekunis Instant and what is it used for
Bekunis Instant is a stimulant plant laxative. It is a herbal medicine for the short-term treatment of occasional constipation.
You must talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 4 days.
2. What you need to know before you take Bekunis Instant
Do not take Bekunis Instant:
- If you are allergic to senna or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- If you suffer from abdominal pain of unknown origin.
- If you suffer from ileus, appendicitis, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis; in case of abdominal pain of unknown cause, as well as in cases of severe dehydration with water and salt losses.
- Children under 12 years of age cannot take Bekunis Instant
Warnings and cautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Bekunis Instant.
An intake of stimulant laxatives for more than the short expected application time may cause a worsening of constipation. This preparation should be used only when a therapeutic effect has not been achieved with a change in eating habits or with bolus-forming laxative preparations.
Using Bekunis Instant with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist that you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicine.
Long-term use of laxatives can cause a decrease in potassium levels that can increase the action of other medications that are administered for the heart.
If you are taking other medications such as cardiac glycosides, arrhythmia medications, medications that induce QT interval prolongation, diuretics, corticosteroids, or licorice root, consult your doctor before taking the medication.
The action of this medication on intestinal transit could modify the levels of other medications that will be taken orally at the same time.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
Due to insufficient toxicological investigations Bekunis Instant cannot be used by pregnant or lactating women.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you might be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine. |
Driving and using machines
No special precautionary measures are necessary.
3. How to take Bekunis Instant
Follow exactly the instructions for administration of the medicine contained in this leaflet or those indicated by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist again.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and adolescents over 12 years old: Once a day take 1 to 3 measures from the Bekunis Instant dispenser. The correct individual dose is the minimum required to obtain a smooth bowel movement. The dose must be adapted individually according to need.
The maximum daily dose should not exceed 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives, that is, 3 measures from the dispenser (975 mg of the medicine) of Bekunis Instant.
In general, it is enough to take the drug 2 or 3 times to obtain the desired effect.
How to use
Pour cold or warm water in 1 glass over 1 to 3 measures from the Bekunis Instant dispenser. Stir and drink in small sips. It can be sweetened with a little honey or added lemon juice.
It is advisable to take it just before going to bed.
The drug usually takes 8 to 12 hours to produce its laxative action, so a single dose at night is recommended, so that the effect occurs in the morning.
Treatment duration
Stimulant laxatives should not be taken without doctor's advice for a long period of time (greater than 1 week).
In general, it is enough to take the medicine 2 or 3 times to obtain the desired effect.
If no defecation has occurred after 4 days from the start of taking Bekunis Instant, you should stop the treatment and consult your doctor.
If you think that the action of Bekunis Instant is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
Use in children
Bekunis Instant should not be given to children under 12 years of age.
Use in elderly patients
Because of your age and depending on your physical condition, you may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine and if you consider that any of the side effects you suffer is serious or if you notice any side effect not mentioned in this leaflet.
When using this medicine in incontinent patients, greater care should be taken when changing diapers to avoid contact with feces.
If you take more Bekunis Instant than you should
The ingestion of doses much higher than those recommended of the product can cause intestinal cramps and severe diarrhea with the consequent loss of water and salt, as well as possible gastrointestinal pain.
If you have taken more Bekunis Instant than you should, consult your doctor, pharmacist or call the Toxicology Information Service, telephone 91 562 04 20, indicating the medicine and the amount taken.
If you forget to take Bekunis Instant
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose but continue taking as directed by your doctor or as described in the package leaflet.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Bekunis Instant can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Occasionally, pains in the belly and spasms, meteorism (presence of gas in the belly), nausea, mucous stools and / or diarrhea, skin rashes, allergic reactions can occur. A yellow-red-brown coloration of the urine may appear, although this is not clinically important. All these symptoms disappear when treatment is stopped.
If you experience side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist, even if they are side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.
5. How to store Bekunis Instant
It does not require any special storage conditions.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date is the last day of the month indicated.
Medicines must not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Deposit the containers and medicines that you do not need at the SIGRE Point of the pharmacy. If in doubt, ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. This way you will help to protect the environment.
6. Package contents and additional information
Composition of Bekunis Instant
- The active principle is Sen. 325 mg of Bekunis Instant (1 scoop from the dispenser) contains 100 to 166.5 mg of senna extract, with a content of 10 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives expressed as sennoside B.
- The other ingredients (excipients) are gelatin and maltodextrin.
What the product looks like and contents of the pack
Bekunis Instant is presented in containers of 32 g and 17.6 g of powder, provided with a 2.5 ml capacity dispenser, for 325 mg measures of Bekunis Instant.
