- [PEPTICA ULCER]. There are no communications of peptic ulcer and/or gastric hemorrhage after using harpagophyte, although some authors claim that it could cause gastric damage. Therefore, extreme caution is advised in patients who have previously had peptic ulcers. If symptoms of gastroduodenal erosion such as nausea, vomiting, gastric hyperacidity or pain in the epigastric area are observed, it is recommended to discontinue administration of harpagophyte.

- [COLELITIASIS]. Stimulation of bile production by the harpagophyte may favor its elimination, although in certain patients where the size of the stones is large enough, it could precipitate an obstruction of the bile ducts. In patients with gallstones or history of gallstones, extreme precautions are advised. If these patients develop symptoms of biliary obstruction, discontinuation of treatment is recommended.
- Joint inflammation. If joint pain is accompanied by swelling in the joint, redness or fever, it is recommended to consult your doctor because more significant injuries may be masked.
In general harpagophyte is well tolerated, and usually only results in mild adverse reactions during use, especially in prolonged treatments. Its mechanism of action is not well established, but it does not seem very likely to result in adverse reactions associated with NSAIDs. No serious adverse reactions were described in clinical trials, and only one patient discontinued treatment as a result of tachycardia, while another experienced symptoms such as headache, tinnitus, anorexia and taste disturbance.
- Digestives: There are communications of mild gastrointestinal disorders, with [NAUSEAS] and [VOMITOS], [ABDOMINAL PAIN] and [DIARREA] (8.1%) in less than 10% of patients who were receiving harpagophyte for four weeks for the treatment of joint pains.

- Allergic/dermatological: [HYPERSENSITIVITY REACTIONS] of a dermatological nature. There is a communication from a woman who experienced an allergic reaction with [RINITIS] and [CONJUNTIVITIS] following continued professional exposure to harpagophyte.
Symptoms: No cases of overdose have been reported.
Treatment: In case of overdose it is advised to discontinue administration of the harpagophyte, and to proceed with symptomatic treatment.
